Hello Everyone!
One of the things I really love about my job is when I have the ability to bring new Technology for our use. The BONUS is when I can provide improvements AND save our school district money. This is one of those examples.
Some history: Around 8.5 years ago when I started with New Haven, one of my first projects was to help us move from our old Cisco Call Center phone system to a new VOIP phone system through Jive.com. ["VOIP" means that the phones are connected over our computer network]. We initially started with a 3-year agreement with Jive.com. When we renewed around 5-years ago, we negotiated lower pricing with a 5-year agreement. Around this time too, Jive.com was purchased by GoTo, and rebranded as "GoToConnect".
Recently, we re-negotiated our phone service agreement with GoToConnect as our previous agreement was expiring - and I was ready!
The good news is that we have renewed our previous agreement with GoToConnect for another 5 years. I was able to negotiate an increased savings of around $15,000 per year. I was also able to negotiate new phones for all of our locations. Our old phones were old - and no longer supported by the manufacturers. Our new phones are current, supported, and in many ways better than our old ones. This is a small list of the improvements:
- faster internal network hardware - increased to gigabit speeds
- Polycom 331 phones (2-line phones) replaced with new 4-line phones
- Yealink 46G phones replaced with new 16-line Polycom phones
