A few weeks ago, I was in a very good meeting with NHTA Leadership, a group of teachers from Logan HS, with teacher representation from Middle and Elementary, and my Supervisor, John Mattos. While the topic of the conversation was Classroom Technology - not printing - I was surprised to learn that many teachers believed that they could not print to classroom printers from their Chromebooks.
While Google did sunset "Google Cloud Printing" back at the end of 2020, New Haven's Technology Team was prepared for this and we rolled out "DirectPrint.io" in 2021 as a replacement for Google Cloud Print.
DirectPrint.io is a fully cloud-based printing solution that connects to our Google services and allows fast and easy printing from teacher Chromebooks, student Chromebooks (if allowed), and even Chrome desktops (aka "Chromeboxes") we have.
So if you cannot print from your Chromebook or Chromebox, and you'd like to, please let us know and we will take care of this for you as soon as we can. Please submit your request via ITOP as "Chromebook printing" and your dedicated Technology Site Tech will contact you to set this up. This is typically a very quick fix (5-10 minutes).
It is exactly information like this that should be shared at staff meetings right when they are rolled out. Going years without printing, being told that printing wasn't available, causing great frustration because of misinformation is not acceptable. I'm glad communication like this is finally available, but we need to do better.
